"When We Were Young" ...

Inspired by our Arts Night theme of "Growing Up", this month's interactive library bulletin board is

When We Were Young

The board includes baby/kid photos of 31 of our teachers ... and they're all so adorable!

This week we started a "Guess the Teacher" contest giving everyone a
chance to see who can name the most teachers.

It has proved to be a lot of fun for everyone from our PYPs to our MYPs to our DPs to our staff.

Other "adventures" in the library have included visits from some of our younger students and a read aloud of "The Book With No Pictures" (lots of laughter ensued), some of our older students volunteering and helping keep the library neat and organized, and lots and lots of cataloging as I undertake the enormous task of computerizing our library system.

This week was also the last week for library check-outs.
ALL library books will be due back by FRIDAY, MAY 25 so that I can begin year-end inventory.

Where is Ms. Hayward?

Father's Day card I made
in grade 2
Just a short post to thank everyone at St. Jude's Academy for their support while I have had to be away this past week to be with my family following the death of my dad on Wednesday.

My Dad (and mom) instilled a love of music and reading in me.  He was always singing.  He will be missed.

Exciting Citations!

Today, I got to present a workshop on citations to Ms. Haag's grade six class.  They are currently working on their Exhibition project and are exploring a lot of interesting and important social issues.

Citations aren't always the most exciting topic to speak on but they are extremely important.
It is very important to ensure that we give others credit for their intellectual property.
Proper citations also help a reader locate the information in the resources used.

We had a great discussion about plagiarism, collusion, and the importance of citations.
Then we watched a fun video that helps explain how to use one form of citations - quotations.
You can check it out here.

Things then got a exciting with our Citation Scavenger Hunt.

A Note About Arts Night

We are excited to let you know that our Arts' Night performances this year will be held at The City Church auditorium located on Argentina road, just a 3 minute drive from the school. With this new venue, we have extra lighting, surround sound, a larger and higher stage, more seating, and much more! This will give you and your family the opportunity to enjoy the Arts' Night performance even more in a theatre environment.

With the new venue location, please note that the JK - Grade 2 performance date has been changed to May 17th.
